NEWS FROM THE EAST LANCS

A good weekend for enjoying the Society's Locomotives on the ELR as both were working over the two days (21st/2nd October) D335 worked the Diesel diagram on the Saturday and again on Sunday. 40 145 worked the last service on Sunday also. Both Locomotives completing thier duties faultlessly.

On the Saturday the Stores coach was at long last shunted from the storage location to the the workshop area enabling work to be carried out on it. Members of the Bury Diesel Group assisted CFPS working members to
complete a number of important tasks. Electrical circuits was restored to provide Lighting within the coach and the Generator engine was started. The Generator engine will be able to provide Electricity away from fixed power points.

Many items of spares and other components were relocated on to the coach from various positions around the yard / workshop. Once these items had been placed about the coach a start was made on sorting them into locations specific to thier use.

Thanks to all concerned Andy Molyneux

NEWS FROM THE EAST LANCS

The first stages of preparing our Stores coach sides were continued on Saturday (28 Oct 06) by removing the existing top coat of paint using coarse sanding paper. Areas that have started to rust were also "rubbed down" and first coat of Primer applied. The more badly corroded areas will need welding work before any paint is applied.

Inside the coach the sorting and storage of the many spares was the main priority for the moment. More shelves are needed and theres still some space and meterails to do that in the future. If any members do have experience with Dexion racking for a job, we would be grateful for assistance.

Thanks to the members for assisting Dave Peacock and Bury Diesel Group for moving the project on further.

ANOTHER MAINLINE SUCCESS FOR 40145

40145’s foray onto the Southern region with the Christmas Cracker on 25 November went without a hitch. As usual a good time was had by all. The only slight disappointment was the passenger loading. To keep this kind of operation running we need to be attracting another 50 or so people. therefore we make a heart felt plea to join us on board the ‘The Welsh Central Liner 2’ which takes 40145 over the entire length of the ‘Heart of Wales Line’ on 3 March 2007. The booking form is available here.

40145 CONFIRMED TO EXTEND STAY AT NYMR

Due to shortage of motive power, unfortunately including D200 currently having problems, the Railway have asked that 40 145 can remain there for a little longer than planned and take part in their 'East Coast Main Line' event.

It's most fitting that our loco is playing a part as it is the only true ECML Class 40 remaining, as many of you will know it was delivered new to Leeds's Neville Hill depot specifically for East Coast trains including the Queen of Scots Pullman. This was the reason why D345 to D350 were fitted with Deltic Style lower headboard brackets.

At this stage 40 145 is planned to work the following trains:-

Saturday 28th April.
10.45 Grosmont to Pickering in tandem with 55 019.
12.25 Pickering to Grosmont in tandem with 55 019.
14.00 Grosmont to Pickering.
15.40 Pickering to Grosmont.

Friday 4th May.
11.50 Grosmont to Pickering.
13.20 Pickering to Grosmont.
14.50 Grosmont to Pickering.
16.20 Pickering to Grosmont.
17.40 Grosmont to Pickering in tandem/leading steam 62005.
19.20 Pickering to Grosmont in tandem/leading steam 62005.
21.25 Grosmont to Pickering in tandem/leading steam 62005.
23.10 Pickering to Grosmont in tandem/leading steam 62005.

Sunday 6th May.
10.45 Grosmont to Pickering in tandem/leading steam 80135.
12.25 Pickering to Grosmont in tandem/leading steam 80135.
14.00 Grosmont to Pickering in tandem with 55 019.
15.40 Pickering to Grosmont in tandem with 55 019.

The loco may also see some use on the Battersby to Whitby section, should the booked steam locos have any problems.
